Artificial Intelligence Management Professional (AIMP) Certification
IAIM certification program
The Artificial Intelligence Management Professional (AIMP) certification teaches you to manage AI in an organization: set strategy, choose and govern systems, control risk, meet the law, lead adoption and prove results. Twelve modules, a toolkit you will use at work, a capstone plan for your own organization and a timed final exam, ending in a verifiable credential issued by the Institute.
Who it is for
Executives, managers, product and operations leaders, policy and compliance professionals, consultants and technical leads who decide how AI gets used and are accountable for the results. No programming is required and none is taught. If you can read a business case, you can complete this program.
What you will be able to do
- Build and tier an AI inventory, publish an AI use policy and stand up an AI Management Office sized to your organization.
- Explain how modern AI systems work, where they fail and what they cost, well enough to make and defend decisions.
- Build a scored use-case portfolio with baselines, capture mechanisms and kill criteria, and write a business case finance will sign.
- Design and govern AI agents with the right level of autonomy, least privilege, approval gates and audit logs.
- Apply the NIST AI Risk Management Framework and ISO/IEC 42001, and decide whether and when to certify.
- Map the EU AI Act, US federal and state law, privacy law and sector rules to your systems and run a compliance rhythm.
- Run risk assessments, fairness testing, red teaming, monitoring and incident response.
- Govern data for AI, apply GDPR and the California rules, and recognize the OWASP Top 10 risks for LLM and agentic applications.
- Select models, platforms and vendors on your own evidence, and negotiate the contract, the total cost and the exit.
- Take a use case from pilot to production, lead workforce adoption, and operate AI with a runbook.
- Measure AI with a four-layer metrics stack, run credible experiments, compute ROI with ranges and brief a board.
- Lead the change: close the trust gap, communicate honestly about jobs, and write a twelve-month AI leadership plan.
How the program works
- Every topic opens with learning objectives and an estimated time, teaches without filler, works through a documented real-world case or a clearly labeled scenario, ends with something you can use at work the next day, and closes with a two-question knowledge check. Every module shows its “Last reviewed” date and cites its sources.
- Scenario labs. The third topic of every module ends with a decision exercise: make your call, then open our analysis.
- Module quizzes. Six questions per module with explained answers; 5 of 6 correct to pass, unlimited retakes.
- The toolkit. Seven branded documents, in the Materials tab: AI Use Policy Template, AI Risk Assessment Worksheet, Vendor Evaluation Scorecard, AI ROI Calculator Worksheet, AI Implementation Roadmap, Prompt and Workflow Library, and the Capstone Template and Rubric.
- The capstone. An AI Implementation Plan for your own organization, reviewed by IAIM against a published rubric, with your result and written feedback six days after you submit.
- The final exam. Fifty questions drawn at random from a bank covering all twelve modules; 90 minutes; 80 percent to pass; three attempts.
- Your certificate. Issued the moment you pass the final exam (which opens once your capstone is approved), with your name, the completion date, a unique Certificate ID and a QR code that anyone can scan to verify it on iaim.ai. Share it to LinkedIn from your account.

Keeping the credential current
AIMP is valid for one year from the day you earn it. Ninety days before it expires, the annual renewal course opens to you: an updated course on the year’s developments in AI management and a 50-question exam. Renewal is $149 a year, or included in the AIMP Certified tier ($229 a year, with every IAIM Member benefit and a listing in the AIMP Directory). Your certificate’s verification page shows its current status.
Questions
Do I need a technical background?
No. The program is written for managers. Module 2 teaches what you need to know about how AI works; nothing requires code.
How long will it take?
About 16 hours for the twelve modules, eight to twelve hours for the capstone and 90 minutes for the exam. The program is designed to be completed in four to eight weeks alongside your work. There is no deadline and no timer on the course.
Can I study on my phone?
Yes. Lessons, quizzes and the exam work on phones, tablets and desktops, and your progress is saved automatically.
What if I do not pass the exam?
You have three attempts, each a fresh random draw from the question bank, and your results page shows which areas to review. Module quizzes can be retaken without limit.
How is the certificate verified?
Every certificate carries a unique ID and a QR code linking to the verification page on iaim.ai, where an employer can confirm the holder, the date and the validity status.
Can my organization enroll a team?
Yes. See the For Organizations page for team enrollment, or contact IAIM.
AIMP toolkit downloads
- AI Use Policy TemplateA one-document policy that says who owns AI, which tools may be used with which data, what must be reviewed by a person, and how AI is bought, monitored and reported. Fill in the brackets, delete the italic guidance, approve it and publish it.Included with the AIMP certification
- AI ROI Calculator WorksheetBaseline, benefit mechanism, full three-year costs, cost per task, return and payback with low, expected and high cases. Designed so that a finance partner can follow every number back to an assumption.Included with the AIMP certification
- AI Implementation RoadmapThe intake form, the scoring grid, the five stages with their gates, the production-readiness checklist, the one-page runbook and a twelve-month timeline. The purpose of the roadmap is to make "not yet" a normal answer.Included with the AIMP certification
- Prompt and Workflow LibraryHow to write instructions a model will follow and a reviewer can audit, how to design an assisted workflow or an agent with the right autonomy, how to build golden and adversarial sets, and twelve reusable patterns for management work with ready-to-use prompts.Included with the AIMP certification
- AI Risk Assessment WorksheetOne structured assessment per AI system, refreshed on change: describe the system, map impacts on people, map risks to the organization, rate, specify controls, and record a signed residual-risk decision. Structured around the NIST AI RMF, ISO/IEC 42001 and the main legal impact-assessment duties.Included with the AIMP certification
- Vendor Evaluation ScorecardTen dimensions, weighted for the use case, each scored only when there is evidence in hand. Includes the maturity questions that reveal what a vendor really does, the contract terms every AI agreement needs, and a decision block.Included with the AIMP certification
