Module 0: Orientation
Welcome to the Artificial Intelligence Management Professional (AIMP) program. This module explains how the program is built, how to study it, what you will walk away with and how to keep the credential current. Read it once before you start Module 1.
What AIMP certifies
AIMP certifies that you can manage artificial intelligence in an organization: set strategy, choose and govern systems, control risk, lead adoption and measure results. It is a management credential, not a programming credential. Every module is written for the people who decide how AI gets used: executives, managers, product and operations leaders, policy and compliance professionals, and technical leads who need the management view.
How the program is organized
- Twelve teaching modules. Each module has three topics and a six-question module quiz. Every topic opens with learning objectives and an estimated time, teaches the material without filler, works through a documented case or a clearly labeled scenario, ends with something you can use at work the next day and closes with a two-question knowledge check.
- Scenario labs. The third topic of every module ends with a decision exercise. Make your call before you open the analysis.
- The toolkit. Seven branded documents you can use at work: the AI Use Policy Template, AI Risk Assessment Worksheet, Vendor Evaluation Scorecard, AI ROI Calculator Worksheet, AI Implementation Roadmap, Prompt and Workflow Library, and the Capstone Template and Rubric. They are linked below and in the Materials tab of the course page.
- The capstone. After Module 12 you write an AI implementation plan for your own organization (or one you know well) and submit it for review against a published rubric.
- The final exam. Fifty questions drawn at random from a bank that covers all twelve modules, 90 minutes, 80 percent to pass, three attempts. Pass it, after your capstone has been approved, and your AIMP certificate is issued at once.
How long it takes
Plan on roughly 16 hours of study for the twelve modules, eight to twelve hours for the capstone and 90 minutes for the exam. There is no timer on the course and no deadline. Your progress is saved automatically; the sidebar shows what you have completed.
How to study it well
- Work in order. Modules build on each other, and the program is linear: finish a topic to unlock the next.
- Keep one organization in mind the whole way through. Every “Use it tomorrow” section and every scenario lab is easier, and more useful, when you apply it to a place you know.
- Fill in each toolkit document as it unlocks. By Module 12 you will have most of your capstone drafted.
- Use the knowledge checks honestly. Answer first, then reveal.
Sources, dates and legal content
AI management changes quickly. Every module shows a “Last reviewed” date and cites its sources at the end of each topic, so you can check the current state of anything before you rely on it. Modules 6 and 8 cover laws and regulations; that content is educational and is not legal advice. For decisions about your organization’s obligations, work with qualified counsel.
Keeping the credential current
AIMP is valid for one year from the day you earn it. Ninety days before it expires, the annual renewal course opens to you: an updated course on the year’s developments and a 50-question exam. Renewal is $149 a year, or included if you hold the AIMP Certified tier ($229 a year), which also brings every IAIM Member benefit, including the member briefings as they are published, and a listing in the AIMP Directory.
The AIMP toolkit
Each document unlocks when you complete the lesson that teaches it, starting with the AI Use Policy Template in lesson 1.2; your course progress bar shows which one is next. Each comes as a branded PDF and as an editable Word or Excel file you can adapt for your organization.
- AI Use Policy TemplateA one-document policy that says who owns AI, which tools may be used with which data, what must be reviewed by a person, and how AI is bought, monitored and reported. Fill in the brackets, delete the italic guidance, approve it and publish it.Included with the AIMP certification
- AI ROI Calculator WorksheetBaseline, benefit mechanism, full three-year costs, cost per task, return and payback with low, expected and high cases. Designed so that a finance partner can follow every number back to an assumption.Included with the AIMP certification
- AI Implementation RoadmapThe intake form, the scoring grid, the five stages with their gates, the production-readiness checklist, the one-page runbook and a twelve-month timeline. The purpose of the roadmap is to make "not yet" a normal answer.Included with the AIMP certification
- Prompt and Workflow LibraryHow to write instructions a model will follow and a reviewer can audit, how to design an assisted workflow or an agent with the right autonomy, how to build golden and adversarial sets, and twelve reusable patterns for management work with ready-to-use prompts.Included with the AIMP certification
- AI Risk Assessment WorksheetOne structured assessment per AI system, refreshed on change: describe the system, map impacts on people, map risks to the organization, rate, specify controls, and record a signed residual-risk decision. Structured around the NIST AI RMF, ISO/IEC 42001 and the main legal impact-assessment duties.Included with the AIMP certification
- Vendor Evaluation ScorecardTen dimensions, weighted for the use case, each scored only when there is evidence in hand. Includes the maturity questions that reveal what a vendor really does, the contract terms every AI agreement needs, and a decision block.Included with the AIMP certification
- Capstone Template and RubricThe structure of the AIMP capstone, an AI Implementation Plan for your own organization, with prompts under every heading, the six-criterion rubric used to grade it, the honor statement and the submission checklist.Included with the AIMP certification
Before you begin
Write down the one AI decision your organization will face in the next six months. You will test it against every module.
