IAIM's briefing explains that from January 1, 2027, businesses subject to California's privacy law that use automated decision making technology for significant decisions about consumers must give notice before use and honor requests to opt out and for access. The final rules cover technology that replaces or substantially replaces human decision making, and the same date brings Colorado's replacement AI law and New York's frontier model rules. It proposes a twelve week plan: inventory, design the notices and requests, assess, then test and train.
